Reflection paper#3
We call the intercultural transitions as culture shock, and everyone has to go through this when they go abroad or change the environment. It will influence peoples life in the new environment. It will led people to find out the excellence and the negative impact of the new culture.
Valdimir, a new immigrant who from Mexico( Intercultural Communication In Contexts| Judith N. Martin| Thomas K. Nakayama P316) has experienced the intercultural transitions, she was panic when she first arrive America. She cannot speak English fluent, but she tried her best and learned the English. At last she found a job and can feed herself.
The intercultural transitions are different for everyone, someone will feel happy and think he is adapt the new environment. after he really begin the new life, he will found out he has too many problem need to be solved. When I first came to America for studying, I feel the America is a perfect world, but when I start the classes, I found out my English is not matching the level that I needed.
In conclusion, the intercultural transitions is the important experience, this experience will decide the peoples future in the new environment.

  1. You made a very important point that intercultural transitions are different for everyone. Thanks for sharing your own experience. I thought the Mexican women is an example of the struggle and success in intercultural transitions.

  2. I liked your point and how you made connections with not only your own experience but also from another person's point of view. A great point that you've made that captured my attention is when you said " it will lead people to find out the excellence and negative impact of the new culture." That sentence captured my attention because I too have experienced the culture shock.
