Participation Paper #8

Research Paper Information

When deciding what I was going to write my participation paper on this week I was having a hard time figuring out what in my opinion I thought was not only worth reading to other students in the class and the professor, but something that was relatable. As we have been previously assigned a research paper due in this class, I choose to write my participation paper over some information that I have conducted for my research paper and some personal opinions and experiences that I have had just in the past few days.
The topic of my research paper is discussing pop culture and the way that it has not only evolved overtime, but the way it deals with intercultural communication as well. When writing my paper, I wanted to make sure that I had some information and opinions that were from a culture that I am unfamiliar with. I choose to take the initiative and interview two international students that were from China that attend school here at UNL. While our conversation was somewhat what I expected going into it, there were some things that surprised me.
I asked both men questions that ranged from how their personal transitions were coming to the United States to what their views were on our pop culture here compared to their traditional pop culture from where they are from. They gave me very good answers explaining that while their transitions to the United States was a little challenging at first, it wasn’t as difficult as they were expecting.
They said, “We will always love our traditional pop culture, however; we’ve really enjoyed the different options, music, views, and other things that are dealt with through pop culture here in the United States.”

It was a very interesting conversation and I’m so glad that I got the chance to talk to them about how they felt. While they gave me more information on how they felt, I’m going to save it for the remainder of my paper that we will be turning in soon! Overall, my experience with the intercultural students was very successful and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results I found.

  1. It is a good way of selling the idea of your paper. Nice points!
